New Business:

  • In absence of Fraser Sime from the DWR, Tricia Bratcher informed the group of the methodology used for the Deer Creek watershed group formation. The Deer Creek group formed in 1997 in an effort to help with the changing environmental problems and identify strategies to tackle the problems in the Deer Creek watershed.

In developing leadership for the group, Deer Creek formed a “steering committee” that worked on developing a “mission statement” and a “charter” for the group. For Deer Creek it took 2 years to work through the process to get where they wanted to be as a watershed group.

  • The First and foremost issue with the Bear Creek Watershed Group was identified as water rights issues and the possibilities of adjudication of water rights in the watershed.
  • In response to Tricia’s information the BCWG would like more information on watershed groups and the various types of groups such as CRMP’s, 501 C (3) ect.
  • It was discussed by the BCWG that in order to attract membership from lower in the watershed it may be useful to have some watershed group meetings lower in the watershed.
  • Bee Nevins informed the BCWG that Dusty Gerbing has resigned from the Shingletown Fire Safe counsel.

Next Meeting Agenda Items:

  • Due to the absence of the watershed coordinator and the in depth discussion of watershed group organizations, future agenda items were not formally identified. The WSRCD project coordinator identified the following items that could be listed on the agenda.
  • Water adjudication processes and discussions
  • Shingletown Fire Safe Coordinator invite to the BCWG
  • Possible ‘steering committee’ formation
  • Identification of future speakers to inform the BCWG

Meeting adjourned 8:05 PM

The next meeting will be May 5 th, 2005 at 6:30 PM .
