  • The aerial photo quality will be high at 2 feet per pixel of resolution.
  • The WSRCD has been working with ENPLAN to strengthen statements and conclusions made in the assessment.
  • The administrative draft will be available to the TAC on July 13th.
  • A local picture is needed to summarize the watershed and it will be placed on the front of the assessment.
  • Following further review, the local and demographic sections may be moved to the front of the assessment.
  • The BCWG will be working on action options to discuss at the August watershed group meeting.
  • Just a reminder of the tentative dates for the Bear Creek Watershed Assessment.
  • In September a draft will be presented to the community.
  • In mid-October the final draft will be printed.

Watershed Coordinator Report:

  • James’s recent activities for the month of June.

o The Sediment Transport modeling project on Cow and Bear Creeks that the DWR is implementing has been completed at the Bear Creek location in Parkville.

o Shasta District Fair was an overwhelming success even with the fair weather; over 91,000 people attended the fair and partook of the multiple activities available. The WSRCD booth was able to extend watershed education to over 5000 people.

o Round Mountain Chipping weekend was welcomed by the local citizens so they could remove unwanted brush that could no longer be burned due to the end of the burning season.

o The Cow Creek Watershed Management Group (CCWMG) held their spring community meeting June 7th. Dave Dubose presented his informative and entertaining presentation about the history of agriculture in the area.

o Other meetings - Palo Cedro Chamber of Commerce, WIM TAC, PIN#900 TAC, CCW water quality monitoring TAC and the SRWP board of trustees.

o The WSRCD produced their July Watersheds and You newsletter. The Newsletter can be viewed on the WSRCD web site. (www.westernshastarcd.org)

  • A sub committee for the BCWG will be formed to work with the web master from the Sacramento River Watershed Program (SRWP). Chuck from SRWP has plans of finishing the Bear Creek web page assistance by the end of this month.
  • Bear Creek Watershed apparel

o The apparel sub-committee presented their cost findings. Bea Nevins presented the cost per shirt and the design to be printed on the front. The cost of producing the apparel will be $4.50 per shirt. The design will be the current BCWG logo and large lettering saying BEAR CREEK WATERSHED. Many members donated funds to get the project underway; currently the group has $340 for the initial shirt purchase and printing costs. The group plans to sell shirts at the August meeting and any community events that the BCWG attends.

New Business:

  • The BCWG draft paper subcommittee has had little time to meet and discuss the possible formalities of the paper, so the agenda item will be tabled until the August meeting.
  • Stan has been working toward getting a speaker for a future meeting. This item was tabled due to his absence.
  • James has been working on spread sheets that will make tracking incoming grants easier to merge with existing and new potential projects. That way James can watch for possible funding opportunities. Right now we’re in a slow grant cycle and no new grants are available.
  • James is also looking for any possible projects to insert into this project matrix.

Old Business:

  • Bear Creek Watershed Group meeting location
  • The tentative date for the BCWG meeting to be held at Dave Dubose’s ranch in Parkville will be changed from the September meeting to October due to the extreme temperatures in the valley during late summer months.
  • Advertising for this meeting will be done by word of mouth and flyers posted on mail boxes.

Next Meeting Agenda Items and possible speakers:

  • Action options for the Bear Creek Watershed Assessment
  • Bear Creek Watershed Assessment
  • T-shirts sales

Meeting adjourned 8:10 PM.

The next meeting will be August 4, 2005 at 6:30 PM.
